Anzhella Tkachenko

Anzhella Tkachenko is an artist who has developed her practice independently. For nearly two decades, painting has remained a deeply personal form of creativity for her.

Drawing had been part of Anzhella’s life since her school years, but she came to painting at around the age of thirty-five. From that point, she gradually developed her own visual language independently, guided by intuition, observation and a personal sense of form and colour. Her first paintings were created in oil; later, acrylic became her primary medium, which she sometimes combines with metal leaf.

Her paintings do not begin with a schedule or with the need simply to produce something. They begin with an inner impulse — an image, a mood or a thought that gradually becomes clear enough to take form. The process often starts with a pencil sketch and then develops through colour, texture and paint.

Through her work, Anzhella expresses what she describes as her thoughts, her mood and her own perception. Human faces and silhouettes, natural forms, birds, trees, sea, light and gold appear repeatedly in her work, often becoming less a literal depiction of a subject and more a visual state shaped by an inner experience.

For Anzhella, the value of painting lies first of all in the process of bringing an inner image into existence. She paints when she feels the impulse to do so, and the finished work brings a deeply personal sense of happiness.

Artist’s words

“I put a part of my soul into every painting. Through my paintings I express my thoughts, moods and the way I perceive the world. Painting makes me happy.”
